Mahmoud Akl is the Vice President of Software at SpiNNcloud Systems, leading the development of the software stack for the SpiNNaker 2 neuromorphic platform. His work focuses on scalable neuromorphic computing and applications well suited for SpiNNaker 2, such as combinatorial optimization, drug discovery, and efficient foundational models. He is currently pursuing a PhD at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) in Biologically-inspired Neural Control and Neuromorphic Deployment, with a research focus on training spiking neural networks for control applications. As part of his doctoral studies, he contributed to the Human Brain Project, working at the intersection of neuroscience and neuromorphic computing. Previously, he earned a Master’s degree in Robotics, Cognition, and Intelligence from TUM and gained research experience through internships at DLR and Intel Labs in robotics, control, and neuromorphic computing.
